At The Digital Cinema Trust (DCT), our nonprofit vision is to create opportunities for storytellers to fully develop and partially fund compelling and highly entertaining stories for the largest audience possible.
A corpus raised from generous donations from large and small patrons of the filmed arts is invested and grown over time. About 37% of the dividends earned yearly are granted to producers for development, talent packaging, distribution development, and production including post-production. Above-the-line creatives and their entertainment companies are incubated and mentored through the process, transforming Utah's award-winning film community into a world-leading industry.
Research shows that modern audiences are fatigued by remakes, reboots, and preachy messaging, especially when unjustified in the stories they watch. Additionally, many feel assaulted by irrational amounts of violence, sex, and vulgar language in most of today's fare. The DCT seeks to support well-crafted filmed stories of any genre that accomplish one or more of the following objectives:
At The Digital Cinema Trust, we aim to grow Utah’s thriving film community into a multi-billion-dollar industry hub. Symbolically, we're building the concert hall where future generations of our own children will learn their art and find their voice—a lasting home for storytelling, creativity, and our humanity.
Once grant funds begin to flow, projects will be developed, filmed, and distributed, quality will improve exponentially, and companies will grow. Grant funds stay in the companies they grow until they are profitable. Over time, business and job creation will expand across scores of production companies, as well as many media-adjacent industries such as rental services, talent agencies, music composing and recording, animation and visual effects houses.
Eventually, these companies will create huge hits, as well as a steady stream of successes. Utah will become a permanent creative hub, attracting talent and investment in projects, infrastructure, technology, and peripheral industries like tourism and education.
